India Dental Clinic
In 1998, Dr. Hardev Coonar of the Rotary Club of Mill Hill recognised a need for a clinic in the Punjab area in India that could provide free dental care to a community that could not afford private treatment and was a great distance from any state facility.
With the help of the local Baba (Holy Man) sufficient funds were raised to provide a building and with the help of the Rotary Club of Mill Hill in the UK and the Rotary Club of Sirhind in India, the building could be equipped.
The facility is staffed partly by local doctors working on a basic salary and partly by volunteer dentists from the UK who give their time for a few weeks. Since it opened, it has served over 100,000 patients and so is seen as a very valuable service in this area.
